I have just graduated college and I am currently taking a break by backpacking through Europe on a journey of self-discovery. I am making my way through Spain and would be in Portugal in the next few weeks.
I want to earn my keep to continue on this travel and since summer here, as far as I know Algarve is the place to be. In order to continue my travel and at the same time enjoy, I need to find a job in the Algarve. Hitting two birds with one stone. I am a business graduate and I have also worked in the food service industry, as a food server. I can also be a handyman or messenger for your business, or even earn my way by being a doorman. Anyone out there willing to give me an opportunity? If all goes well, I may end up settling down here, if everything works out. |

I am an English teacher and I heard through the grapevine that there is a great need for English teachers here in Portugal. I am interested in migrating to Portugal in order for me to fulfill that need.
What are the basic requirements for an English teacher to be able to practice in Portugal? I need advice. |

The basic requirement to be able to teach English in Portugal is by having a Test of English as First Language (TEFL) certification. An individual would be hard pressed to find work as an English teacher without this kind of specialized certification.
The average salary of an English teacher in Portugal can range from € 600 to € 1,250 a month, which is largely dependent on the individual’s qualifications and training. Bonuses are often given to teachers if they remain with the school for more than twelve months. Contracts for teaching range from nine to twelve months in a year. For European Union citizens, the receipt of an employment offer makes one eligible for a residency permit while for non EU citizens, employment need be secured prior to their arrival in the country. Schools often pay for airfare of the foreign teacher in English and even for accommodations as they complete their contract. The work is anywhere between twenty two to twenty five hours per week, with school’s operating on Saturday mornings. Okay? |
