Default Language Learning

hey all! I was wondering if Portuguese is very different from Spanish. I know these countries live side by side. I am able to understand a bit of Spanish but was wondering if Portuguese is hard to learn.

Are there any sites that you recommend for me to be able to learn Portuguese? It's one of my new year's resolutions, to learn a new language. I figure might as well learn a language only a few people in my area knows.

Portuguese is very different from spanish, even if the countries are on the same peninsula. there are some commonalities though.

In english, it's "hello there and welcome to all"

In portuguese, "oi aí e bem-vindo"

In spanish, "hola allí y da la bienvenida"

very small differences, but it means a lot...

i hope you learned from this...

Do remember that Portuguese in Brazil is very different from Portuguese in Portugal.

Brazil was initially a Portuguese colony and the language used there has included many native words which are not found in the original Portuguese language. So be careful in learning the kind of Portuguese that you read about or be taught.
